About the Campaign

The story of how #KamiNampak came to be

#KamiNampak is a youth-led campaign to ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ monitor the use of the conflict rhetoric that incites race and religion issues by elected representatives. First conceived as a ๐Ÿ”Ž monitoring campaign during the Johor 2021 State Elections, #KamiNampak has employed ๐Ÿ™‹ youth volunteers to monitor the ๐Ÿ—ณ election campaigns in multiple elections.

The ๐Ÿ™ race or religion card is characterised as disinformation, misinformation and malinformation of a racial or religious group, falsely manufacturing or associating a political, economic or social threat, and emphasised use of oneโ€™s own race or religion to ๐Ÿ‘ garner support. Such political rhetoric is employed to highlight differences between people and opposition towards groups and ๐Ÿ’ฌ ideas. These ๐Ÿ“ฐ narratives blame various groups for social problems, reinforcing negative stereotypes, and may create ๐Ÿงจ demand for policies that harm a specific racial or religious group.

It is time for racial and religious sentiment in ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ Malaysian politics to be a thing of the ๐Ÿ—“ past. This is necessary for our democracy to experience a more healthy and mature practice in campaigning and โš–๏ธย governance.
